La Salle HS Lancers (CA) Prove To Be Too Much For Salesian HS Mustangs (CA)
On a warm Friday night, October 5, 2017, the La Salle High School Lancers proved to be a bit too much to handle for the Salesian Mustangs. Led by Freshman Quarterback, #7 C.J. Montes, the Lancers moved the ball at will against the Mustangs all game long in front of a packed homecoming crowd on the eastside of Pasadena, CA. The Mustangs defense gave the Lancers offense some trouble in the first few minutes of the first quarter...that's before the Lancer offense caught their groove on an early field goal, and then a touchdown run by #3 Damien Curl late in the first quarter.
The Lancers caught a wave after a 37 yard touchdown run by #1 Donte Coxsom 🌊.. The Lancers did not look back after Coxsom's run. Due to great field positioning helped by elusive punt returners Coxom and #2 R'mon Huff, the Lancers spent the majority of the game in Salesian territory. Stellar defense coupled with a balanced passing attack on offense helped the Lancers turn the game into a lopsided win. Trey Stewart (#21) helped the Lancer defense with a nice interception deep in Mustang territory.
C.J. Montes connected with #11 Justin Lockhart on a deep bomb in the 3rd quarter that lit the homecoming crowd on fire 🔥. Montes also connected with #17 senior Chris Wilson for a touchdown, in addition to Montes scurrying in for a score of his own on a red-zone play.
The Salesian Mustangs managed to get on the board late in the game with a touchdown, but the game was too far out of reach by the time that they scored. The Lancers are up against St. Francis (La Canada, CA) next week, while the Mustangs up to battle Harvard-Westlake (Studio City, CA).
