Colorado Spring Game 2024: Deion Sanders Commits to Staying, Despite NFL Prospects for Sons

As Boulder gears up for its second year under Deion Sanders, Colorado hosted its annual spring game, attracting fans eager to glimpse the team's prospects for 2024. Despite challenging weather, the scrimmage was lively, offering fans a preview of the upcoming season.

This year, Colorado's roster saw significant changes, highlighted by exciting new arrivals like Dallan Hayden from Ohio State, and the departure of key players such as running back Dylan Edwards. This flux resulted in a spring game that pitted offense against defense, allowing many players to showcase their skills in varied roles.

Amidst high transfer activity, speculation about Deion Sanders' future at Colorado has been rampant, particularly concerning his tenure post his sons'—quarterback Shedeur Sanders and defensive back Shilo Sanders—college careers. Sanders addressed these rumors decisively, affirming his commitment to Colorado and clarifying that he does not intend to follow his sons into the NFL.

When discussing recruitment for upcoming seasons, Sanders emphasized his role as a father and leader, stating, "I tell them I'm a father, not a baby daddy. I don't follow my kids. I pave roads for my kids. I build generational wealth for my kids. I lead my kids. I don't follow my kids. So, I do not plan on following my kids to the NFL. But I'm thankful, I'm glad that you already pretty much put them in the NFL. That means you believe in them wholeheartedly."

Sanders further expressed his contentment with life in Boulder, remarking on the beauty of the area and his surprise at how much he has come to enjoy it. "I'm serious, I absolutely love it here, man. I really do. I would never think a young brother from the South would really love it in this part of the country, but I really do."

The game also highlighted some standout performances despite the inclement weather, with Shedeur Sanders throwing a touchdown pass to newcomer LaJohntay Wester from FAU. Additionally, the event celebrated the achievements of walk-on players like Charlie Offerdahl, who earned a scholarship, spotlighting the community and opportunity within the team.
